The Friendly Toast is a cute brunch place in Cambridge a friend recommended to me. My parents were here for Family and Friends Weekend, and I was looking for someplace unique and special where the breakfast was more than just scrambled eggs and bacon.
I am happy to say that this place has quite literally revolutionized breakfast. I've never seen combinations like the ones on their menu, and they were all quite hearty. Of course, The Friendly Toast still does offer some basic breakfast items, but I'd like to highlight some of its more unique dishes.
My family and I shared the huevos rancheros and the Monte Cristo, which had some very flavorful combinations. The huevos rancheros had cheddar melted on anadama bread and two poached eggs, avocado, fresh salsa, and chorizo. The Monte Cristo combined sweet with savory; this oatmeal French toast dish was filled with scrambled eggs, ham, Swiss cheese, and Dijon mustard, dusted with powdered sugar, and served with a side of strawberry habanero. As you can tell, these are loaded and hearty breakfasts that are extremely flavorful and filling.
The whole vibe of The Friendly Toast is playful rock-and-roll with a bit of grunge. The atmosphere, waiters, and decor all match this theme very well. This restaurant is kid-friendly, too. The Friendly Toast’s waiting area was very unique, with couches, cookies, muffins, and hot chocolate as an incredibly sweet gesture to its patrons. We all know how people get “hangry,” and The Friendly Toast knows that hangry people lose their patience more easily. There was a bit of a wait for seating, but I'm telling you this place is worth the wait.
In warmer weather, they also have a beautiful outdoor seating area with cute tables and chairs. The mini courtyard is complete with trees and lights.
This is a nice restaurant that has the decor and atmosphere to go with its unique food. I would highly recommend this spot for a family brunch.
