Good Spread makes peanut butter that can help save lives. Sounds nuts, right? Imagine how many lives we could save if all peanut butter lovers chose to buy Good Spread! How can peanuts, organic honey, a touch of sugar, and oil do this? Well, Good Spread is a Nashville-based peanut butter company that is committed to ending Severe Acute Malnutrition (SAM) around the world.
Based on a one-to-one model, Good Spread donates one packet of Ready-to-use Therapeutic Food (RUTF) for every jar of peanut butter you buy. Therapeutic food packets are comprised of peanut butter and packed with vital nutrients that many children worldwide would lack access to otherwise. Through its partnerships with MANA (Mother Administered Nutritive Aid) and World Vision, Good Spread provides RUTF to severely malnourished children. Believe it or not, an RUTF treatment of three packets a day for 4-6 weeks has a 95% success rate of curing severe acute malnutrition in children!
This enables healthy brain development, strengthens these children’s severely compromised immune systems, and allows them to grow normally, giving them a chance at life that they were unlikely to have if their malnutrition remained unaddressed.
Why should you care about malnutrition? According to the World Health Organization, about 45% of all childhood deaths are linked to malnutrition. In fact, more children die from SAM than from AIDS, tuberculosis, and Malaria combined. One of the Millennium Development Goals put forth by the United Nations is to eradicate extreme poverty and hunger, and another was to reduce child mortality. By supporting Good Spread we can get closer to achieving both of these impressive goals. The next shipment of RUTF will be going out to help children in Nicaragua.
How can you #helpgoodspread? Well, it’s really simple: when you run out of peanut butter, instead of heading to the grocery store to get Jif or Skippy peanut butter, head to amazon.com. That’s right, you can buy peanut butter from the same place you get your textbooks. And if you use the promo code BUBUTTER you can get a 10% discount.
Delicious, magical, and blended with honey, Good Spread peanut butter is perfect for shoppers looking for a healthy snack with a healthy cause. Eat it on crackers or toast or even straight from the jar – but today we’re making quick and easy peanut butter cookies.
