When it comes to baking, Katie's knowledge in pastry comes second to almost none within the School of Hospitality Administration community. Coupled with Katie's love of taking and editing pictures, it was only natural that Katie would join the TasteBUds team as a photo editor. She love going out to eat and taking pictures, with one of her favorite Boston meals being from Met Back Bay.
Originally born in China, Katie was adopted by American parents and lived in Palm Springs, California before moving back to Guangzhou for her studies. Katie's international experiences have only broadened her horizons in the culinary world; being a pastry intern at the Sofitel Sunrich Hotel in Guangzhou, China was a great experience for Katie's culinary career.
While she has made beautiful, complex desserts through her line of work, Katie appreciates simple American classics. One of her personal favorite things to bake are decorated cut-out Christmas cookies, as the holiday season holds a special place in her heart. Katie absolutely loves tea, and has mastered the art of brewing the perfect cup. She loves the British tradition of afternoon tea, which has become a staple in her life since studying abroad in London last spring. In fact, one of her most memorable dining experiences was at The Mad Hatter's Tea Party at the Sanderson in London with Managing Editor Amanda Barone and Content Editor Jordan Rozenfeld.
As one of two photo editors, Katie will be in charge of mentoring a team of photographers, making sure that they have a monthly assignment, and helping them find different food-related subjects to be inspired by. When she graduates, Katie hopes to open her own pastry brick and mortar, featuring desserts and baked goods inspired by her travels.
