What’s a better combination than a cup of decadent gelato paired with a smooth and creamy cappuccino? Absolutely nothing. This could perhaps be the best combination of food found in the North End: cool and refreshing meets warm and comforting. And lucky for us, there’s no better place to satisfy such tastes in one sitting than at Gigi Gelateria in the North End.

Other than the delicious treats, there are some aspects of this little hole in the wall that make it unique. For one, the restaurant offers cappuccinos, espresso, hot chocolate, cannolis, and other pastries all in one place. Sure, this can be a bit similar to other restaurants in the North End such as Mike’s Pastry, but the difference is that Gigi Gelateria offers all of these treats in a small, quiet, and cozy atmosphere. You’re not force to push to the front of the line or to eat outside because of limited table space. Plus, the staff is incredibly friendly and personable; and the restaurant is filled with a lot of locals from the North End instead of a large group of tourists. Because it is not such a renowned place, you’ll only find people lucky enough to stumble upon it. So it provides a much more intimate setting for enjoying food of the North End. It really makes you feel like an insider of the North End’s “in-crowd”.

Aside from its uniqueness, the food is scrumptious. You can stop outside for gelato, or go inside (a piece of the gelato counter is located outside and it continues to the inner area of the actual restaurant.) The flavors are endless—anything from tart, to tangy, to fruity, to chocolatey, to simple, to exotic and sugary. After you’re feeling cool and refreshed, warm back up with a delicious cappuccino. Its thick creaminess surrounds you with warmth as the espresso gives you a jolt. Thus comforting you and energizing for the rest of your time out!

The North End is its own little community—a lot of the time it’s hard to go there without feeling like a tourist. But finding places that aren’t so mainstream can make you feel like an insider; it can make you feel like you know the good places that all the locals frequent. Gigi Gelateria opens that window. And as if that weren't enough, the gelateria also places incredible Italian desserts right in front of your eyes!
